AMD is charging on Intel since the introduction of their Ryzen CPU lineup by offering higher performance/dollar ratio. Ryzen 3000 brings incredible performance enhancements bringing AMD on par with Intel in most of the scenarios. However, AMD doesn't have a competition to offer to Intel in the budget category for quite sometime.

Competition is Heating Up!

The aforesaid market is dominated by Core i3 chips by Intel. The last competition they saw were from 1st Gen Ryzen 3 Chips. But things are going to change as AMD has finally updated the lineup with "Zen 2" based Ryzen 3100 and 3300X chips going head to head with Intel's latest Core i3-10100.

Ryzen 3100 is a 4 Core/8Threads chip which runs at a base clock of 3.6 GHz boosting to 3.9 GHz. The elder sibling (3300X), has a higher base clock of 3.8 GHz boosting to 4.3 GHz. Both chips have a rated TDP of 65W. The former is priced at 99 USD and later one at 120 USD. Whats really interesting is that these chips also bring the PCIe Gen 4.0 support to the budget category for the very first time (with Intel still being stuck on PCIe Gen 3).

Looking at past, the specs of these budget chips are almost identical to the flagship processors priced much higher than these (obviously we are talking about Intel ones, AMD was not near anywhere with performance just a couple of years back). Even Intel's own i3-10100 can go toe to toe with past flagship processors. The point here is the devaluation of the used chips available as these processors offers great performance on a competitive price.

The Future?

More competition is always welcomed from user's perspective. Budget builds are going to get more power and competition brings more performance and choice. AMD and in turn Intel too are responsible for this welcomed change.
