Intel has recently announced their much awaited 10th Generation processors (Comet Lake-S off course). After the arrival of comet lake to the notebook PCs, people were eagerly waiting for its desktop sibling and we finally have it here!

AMD's Ryzen CPUs specially their latest 3000 series processors made quite a disruption in desktop market which is enough for the team blue to start planning a counter strike and Comet lake-S is their answer. But what has changed? To be honest, not much!

10th Gen CPUs are still a revision of their aging 14nm Skylake architecture but offers more no. of cores and higher clock speeds in contrast to their predecessors. Intel has also included overclocking features to extract more performance. This should be good for gamers and enthusiasts to extent that Intel is claiming to have the world's fastest gaming desktop processor in form of i9-10900K. This CPU is the direct successor to the previous generation's 9900K but now features 10 Cores/20 Threads configuration instead to 8/16, 3.7 GHz base clock and up to 5.3 GHz insane boost clock with Intel TurboBoost 3.0. This is sure a beast of performance breaking 5 GHz barrier.

Extracting such performance from their aging architecture do require some compromises. The TDP of all the chips which are unlocked including 10900K has been increased to 125W from 95W. Higher power usage means more heat dissipation. You should probably be ready to spent more on the cooling system!

To add more, these processors now require LGA 1200 socket. No Backwards compatibility! To get this taste of performance you have to upgrade your motherboard too. But is all of this expenditure justified?

The answer is mixed! If you are an enthusiast or gamer then you are good to go with Intel as you can extract the last juice of absolute performance with these chips. But for the budget and mainstream users, AMD is the best bet, Their processors provide the most bang for the buck. The performance per dollar ratio of AMD processors is much greater than Intel offerings.

So it concludes that Intel is going towards shear performance only and ignoring AMD's penetration in mainstream and even in enthusiast market? It seems like this with announcing Comet lake-S that Intel is still not taking AMD that seriously. But I still believe that Intel will not let the ground open for AMD too long. Team Blue has to wake up!
